U.S. Air Force Partners with MMRA

ALEXANDRIA, VA (July 21,2002) The Miniature Motorsports Racing Association (MMRA) is excited to announce the MMRA Nationals Presented by the U.S. Air Force.  The weekend event takes place August 16-18, 2002 at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

MMRA President Pete Neimeier states “Minicup racing has been around for several years but the addition of the U.S. Air Force marks a major step forward for the sport.  Association with the U.S. Air Force will increase visibility for our sport and help attract new Future Stars of Racing™ competitors.  Some, like ARCA’s Shelby Howard, will move up in the racing world, while others may join the ranks of those defending our country.  It is a win-win partnership.”

Tech Sergeant Daniel Elkins of the U.S. Air Force agreed, “Motorsports has proven to be a winning partnership for the U.S. Air Force.  Locally, we continue to use a minicup show car at recruiting events with great success.  The U.S. Air Force is finding the technically skilled people we need to support our flying mission from race fans equally interested in motorsports

The MMRA’s Future Stars of Racing™ program featuring kids aged 8-16, allows young racers to compete on popular NASCAR sanctioned short tracks in a full bodied stock car with complete working suspension.   For Winston Cup hopefuls, the experience gained, and lessons learned in a minicup will be invaluable.

About MMRA

The Miniature Motorsports Racing Association is the oldest and largest sanctioning body in the country for 1/2 scale stock cars known as minicups.   The goal of MMRA is to provide a level playing field where the average fan can get out of the stands and into the action.  Minicup racing is the least expensive, safest way for new racers to turn laps on popular short tracks around the country.
