FUTURE STARS OF RACING ARE NOW TOBACCO FREE
The Miniature Motorsports Racing Association (MMRA) is
pleased to announce sponsorship for both East and West Grand National races
from the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids. The events will take place July
25-27 at the beautiful new Lake Erie Speedway in Pennsylvania, and August
9-10 at South Sound Speedway in Washington.
The Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids’ logo and message
will be seen on the racecars, the MMRA website, and on banners at the
tracks. Sheela Mirmira, Manager Partnerships & Development for the Campaign
stated, “The MMRA racing program is a great opportunity for us to take our
message to a sport that has been the focus of billions of dollars in tobacco
industry advertising for decades. We hope that our involvement with MMRA
will encourage kids to choose a tobacco free lifestyle.”
Pete Neimeier, President of MMRA explained, “While we
certainly appreciate the financial support of the Campaign for Tobacco Free
Kids, this partnership is one we are particularly excited about. Our tech
director lost a lung to smoking induced lung cancer. Now we both share an
emotional commitment to change the perception of tobacco among our Future
Stars of Racing. Our young people have bright futures ahead of them. We
don’t want tobacco to keep them from reaching their goals.”
ABOUT MMRA:
The MMRA is the oldest and largest sanctioning body for
½ scale stock cars known as minicups. Minicup cars have the same safety
features and design of full size stock cars, but are inexpensive to purchase
and race. MMRA sanctions races nationwide, generally on ¼ mile to 3/8 mile
oval racetracks. The most unique aspect of MMRA is the Future Stars of
Racing program for kids aged 8-16. For more information about MMRA, check

ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN FOR TOBACCO FREE KIDS:
The
Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is striving to build a healthier future for
our children by changing public attitudes and public policies regarding
tobacco use. The Campaign’s mission is to free our kids from tobacco
addiction and save lives by reducing tobacco use and exposure to secondhand
