May 2007 - MMRA Newsletter
Hello Racers!
Although we have had our share of spring rainouts, the 2007 season is
finally getting underway. Our membership rolls, points standings, and
race results are starting to fill out, and it looks like it will be a great
year.
I would like to use this newsletter to introduce a new program for MMRA.
For years we have promoted the fact that MMRA is the place for kids to get
their start in racing. It is great to have many successful racers
including Shelby Howard, Stephen Leicht, Will Kimmel, Alison Quick, and Carl
Edwards race our cars and then move on in racing.
At the same time however, we have a group of veteran racers that deserve
more recognition for their accomplishments. Over the years, we've seen
guys like Chester McDowell, Mark Rouse, Troy Turner, and Larry Theobald
demonstrate amazing talent on the track. These veterans are true
racers, and they often display skill and poise on the track that our young
racers would do well to emulate.
These racers are even more impressive when you consider that they race
knowing if they break it, they have to fix it. Few of them have big
sponsors or parents who will pay the bills, so when they finish up front it
is even more impressive.
MMRA would like to recognize these veterans with a new award we'll call
the masters cup. It will be awarded to the racer 40 years and older
who finishes highest in the final points standings. There will be an
award for the eastern PRO Division and also the western PRO Division.
These racers will receive the masters cup at the 2007 MMRA awards banquet in
November.
To see the competitors in the running for the masters cup, just look for
an "M" before their name on the members page and also on the points
standings page.
